Steps to Keeping Your Fitness Resolutions

Fitness resolutions do not have to start with the beginning of each year. You can decide to make a lifestyle change at any point and having the tools necessary to keep these fitness resolutions will help you reach your goals. If you find that you are beginning to fade away from your resolutions, try one or two of these tips to stay on track and feel empowered:

  • Set an attainable goal. If your fitness goal is to lose 30 pounds in three months, you may be disappointed, or are going about weight loss in an unhealthy way. Your body will respond to a new diet and exercise program that helps you lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. This progress may seem slower than what you desire, but the weight loss is more attainable than if you were to lose five pounds a week. Other attainable goals include things such as walking three to four miles every day, cycling for an hour a day, swimming 50 laps in the pool. If you notice, each of these resolutions are also measurable and specific, which is another way to stay on the path to keeping your fitness resolutions.
  • Find a partner. Sometimes, it is easy to skip a workout if you are tired, overworked or your favorite television show is on. One way to overcome this barrier is to find a workout partner. Workout partners help you stay on track because you set an appointment with this person and you are less likely to cancel on a friend. Choose someone who has similar fitness resolutions and will challenge you to be better.
  • Have fun. Performing the same workout day after day can lead to workout boredom and eventually a loss of interest in exercise. Instead, add a variety of exercises into your routine and switch up your weekly workout program. For instance, try rock climbing or kickboxing for a fun challenge.
